T-Shirt Braided Rope Basket

Materials
5 old t-shirts in various colors
1 wooden dowel, 1 inch in diameter and 18 inches long
Scissors
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Needle and thread (optional)
Directions
Cut each t-shirt into long strips, approximately 2 inches wide. Remove any seams or hems.
Group the strips into bundles of three and tie a knot at one end of each bundle.
Secure the knotted end under a heavy object or use the wooden dowel to hold it in place.
Braid the strips tightly, adding more strips as needed by overlapping ends and securing with a dab of hot glue.
Continue braiding until you have a long rope of about 12 feet. Tie a knot at the end and trim any excess fabric.
Begin forming the basket by coiling the braided rope into a flat spiral for the base, gluing the layers together as you go.
Once the base is the desired size (approximately 8 inches in diameter), start coiling upwards to form the sides of the basket.
Continue coiling and securing with hot glue until the basket reaches a height of about 6 inches.
Trim any loose ends and optionally sew them down with a needle and thread for extra stability.

Variations & Tips
To personalize this project further, consider using t-shirts with different patterns or textures to enhance the visual interest of your basket. You can also experiment with the basket's shape by creating a taller, narrower design for storing items like kitchen utensils or crafting supplies. For added durability, line the interior with scrap fabric or sew a fabric base inside. These variations maintain the core use of t-shirt braids while expanding the basket's functionality.
