This DIY project transforms a wooden embroidery hoop and plastic zip ties into an elegant metallic sunburst mirror, perfect for adding a chic, boutique touch to any bathroom. By using affordable and readily available materials, this project offers a cost-effective way to create a stylish decor piece that looks far more expensive than it is. The vintage brass paint finish gives the mirror an upscale, timeless appeal, making it a versatile addition to various interior themes.
Place this sunburst mirror above a bathroom vanity or on a feature wall to create a focal point. Pair it with complementary metallic accents, such as brass fixtures or gold-toned accessories, to enhance its vintage charm. Consider a neutral palette with warm undertones to make the metallic finish stand out. For a cohesive look, include similar textures and materials, like wooden frames or woven baskets, to tie the room together.
Zip Tie Sunburst Mirror

Materials
1 cheap wooden embroidery hoop (approximately 12 inches in diameter)
150 long plastic zip ties (approximately 12 inches each)
1 can of vintage brass spray paint
1 round mirror (approximately 8 inches in diameter)
Strong adhesive (suitable for wood and glass)
Protective gloves
Drop cloth or newspaper
Directions
Lay down a drop cloth or newspaper to protect your working area.
Take the wooden embroidery hoop and arrange it flat on your workspace.
Begin attaching the plastic zip ties around the embroidery hoop, spacing them evenly. Ensure the zip ties are cinched tightly, with the ends radiating outward.
Continue attaching the zip ties until the entire circumference of the hoop is covered in a sunburst pattern.
Once all zip ties are secured, trim the ends to create a uniform length if necessary.
In a well-ventilated area, spray the entire assembly with vintage brass spray paint, coating evenly. Allow it to dry completely.
Once dry, center the round mirror inside the hoop and secure it with strong adhesive. Allow the adhesive to set as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Hang the completed sunburst mirror in your desired location using appropriate hanging hardware.

Variations & Tips
For a different aesthetic, consider using silver or copper spray paint for the zip ties to match other metallic elements in your decor. Alternatively, experiment with different zip tie lengths to create a more layered or varied sunburst effect. For a more rustic look, leave the wooden hoop unpainted to add a natural contrast against the metallic zip ties. You can also replace the round mirror with a different shape or use a colored mirror for added flair.
