Transform your living room with a rustic and eco-friendly touch by creating beautiful wall planters using everyday materials. This DIY project repurposes common white plastic bottles into stylish planters wrapped in earthy jute twine, providing a warm, natural accent to your home decor. Not only is this a cost-effective way to enhance your living space, but it also promotes sustainability by reusing materials you likely already have.
These rustic wall planters are perfect for a cozy living room with natural wood elements or neutral tones. Hang them on a feature wall, either in a straight line or staggered pattern, to create visual interest. Pair with indoor plants like pothos or succulents for a touch of greenery that contrasts beautifully with the brown jute. Keep the surrounding decor simple to let the planters stand out as the room's focal point.
Rustic Jute-Wrapped Wall Planters
Materials
10 white plastic bottles (1-liter size)
50 feet of thick brown jute twine
Hot glue gun with extra glue sticks
Scissors
Wall hooks or mounting strips
Directions
Cut the top third off each plastic bottle, creating a cup-like shape with the base.
Using the hot glue gun, attach the end of the jute twine to the bottom edge of a bottle base.
Tightly wrap the jute twine around the outside of the bottle, periodically adding a small drop of hot glue to secure the twine in place as you ascend.
Continue wrapping until the entire exterior of the bottle is covered, then cut and glue the end of the twine securely at the top edge.
Repeat steps 2-4 for the remaining bottles.
Once all bottles are wrapped in jute, decide on the arrangement for your wall planters. Use wall hooks or mounting strips to hang them securely.
Insert your choice of small potted plants into each jute-wrapped planter before hanging.
Variations & Tips
For added visual interest, consider using jute twine in varying shades of brown or incorporate a pattern by alternating the direction of the wrap. You can also experiment with different bottle sizes to create planters of varying heights, adding depth to your wall display. If desired, incorporate decorative elements such as small wooden beads or metal charms along the twine for an additional rustic touch while maintaining the core structure and aesthetic of the project.
