There’s something especially satisfying about turning a few inexpensive basics into seasonal décor that looks collected and intentional. In this project, I’m making a two-item autumn centerpiece display by stacking dollar store glass candle holders onto clay saucers, then filling the tops with acorns for a simple front-door accent that feels warm, natural, and classic.
As someone who spends plenty of time thinking about presentation in the kitchen, I tend to approach home décor the same way: balance, texture, and a clear focal point matter. This is a beginner-friendly project, it comes together quickly, and it’s ideal if you want fall decorating that looks charming without requiring power tools or a big budget.

1. Wipe the glass candle holders and both clay saucers with rubbing alcohol to remove dust and oils, then let everything dry completely.
2. Turn one candle holder upside down and center its rim on the middle of one clay saucer to check the fit before gluing.
3. Apply a thin bead of clear glue around the rim that touches the saucer, then press the candle holder onto the saucer and hold it steady for 30 to 60 seconds.
4. Repeat the same process with the second candle holder and the other saucer so you have two matching pedestal bases.
5. Let the glued pieces cure according to the adhesive directions so the bases are fully stable before adding anything on top.
6. Once the bases are set, place the remaining two glass candle holders upright on top of each pedestal and check that they sit flat and centered.
7. Add a small bead of glue where each top candle holder meets the base piece if you want a permanent display, then hold each one in place briefly until secure.
8. Allow the full stacked pieces to cure completely, and test each display by gently tapping the side to make sure it feels balanced and firm.
9. Fill the top cups with acorns, mounding them slightly for a fuller look but keeping them below the rim so they stay in place.
10. Set the two finished pieces by the front door, on a console, or in the center of a porch table, spacing them a few inches apart for a tidy paired display.
Variations & Tips
Add layered texture: Tuck in a few tiny pinecones, dried seed pods, or preserved oak leaves with the acorns if you want more variation while keeping the same natural autumn palette.
Use flameless candles instead: If your top candle holders are wide enough, you can fill the bottom with a little moss and place a battery tea light on top for an evening porch glow.
Keep it weather-aware: If these will sit outdoors near the front door, place them in a somewhat sheltered spot so rain and strong wind don’t loosen the glue or scatter the filler.
Make the pair more dynamic: I like using candle holders of slightly different heights so the two finished pieces relate to each other without looking too matched, much the way I’d vary serving pieces on a table.
Choose sturdy acorns: Use fully dried, clean acorns and discard any with cracks or insect holes so the display stays neat and lasts through the season.
Try a finished look on the saucers: You can leave the clay natural for a rustic style, or dry-brush the saucers with cream, bronze, or matte black paint before assembly for a more polished front-door arrangement.
