There’s something satisfying about taking an everyday corner of the house and making it work a little better. This laundry pod dispenser is about as simple as a project gets: a large clear glass cookie jar set right onto a small wooden lazy susan, turning a plain storage solution into something tidy, easy to reach, and honestly a little pretty too.
I’ve always believed the hardworking rooms in a home deserve some care as much as the front porch or kitchen table. Out here, we learn to make do and make it nice at the same time, and this little laundry room trick does both. It’s a good project for beginners, renters, or anyone who wants cleaner-looking storage without hauling out a toolbox for a full afternoon.
Materials
1 large clear glass cookie jar with chrome lid, 1 jar about 1 gallon capacity and 8 to 9 inches wide
Instructions
1. Measure the base of your glass cookie jar and the top of your lazy susan to make sure the jar will sit fully inside the round top with at least 1/2 inch of margin all around.
2. Wipe the top of the lazy susan and the bottom of the jar with rubbing alcohol, then dry both with a microfiber cloth so the surfaces are clean and dust-free.
3. Set the lazy susan on your washer, dryer, shelf, or countertop and give it a spin to make sure it turns smoothly without wobbling.
4. Place 4 to 6 small, evenly spaced dabs of clear museum gel or removable mounting putty near the outer edge of the lazy susan top, keeping them about 1 inch in from the rim.
5. Center the cookie jar on the lazy susan and press down gently so it grips without squeezing the gel or putty out the sides.
6. Rotate the lazy susan slowly to confirm the jar stays centered and secure, then adjust the jar before the gel fully settles if it looks off.
7. Fill the jar with laundry pods, leaving 2 to 3 inches of space below the top so the lid closes easily and you can reach in comfortably.
8. Put the lid on, place the dispenser in its final spot, and turn the base as needed so you can access the jar easily from either side of the laundry area.
Variations & Tips
Use a non-slip option: If you don’t want to attach the jar permanently at all, place a thin round shelf liner or non-slip grip pad cut to size between the jar and the lazy susan.
Choose the right jar size: A wide, heavy-bottomed jar works best here. If the jar is too narrow for its height, it can feel tippy once filled.
Keep it renter-friendly: Museum gel is my favorite for this kind of project because it holds well but is usually removable, which makes the whole setup easy to take apart for cleaning.
Mind the placement: Set the dispenser where small children and pets can’t reach it. Laundry pods should always be stored up high or in a secured area.
Try matching finishes: A chrome-lidded jar and bamboo base give a clean, cheerful look, but you can also use a white painted lazy susan or a clear acrylic turntable if that suits your laundry room better.
Make cleaning easy: Every couple of weeks, lift off the jar, wipe the base, and check for dust or detergent residue. In an old farmhouse, I’ve learned that the little upkeep jobs are what keep a good idea working nicely.
