I love a project that looks polished but starts with the most humble ingredients, and this two-tier stand is exactly that kind of make. By stacking dollar store plastic charger plates onto thrifted glass candlesticks, you can create a pretty stand that works beautifully on a front entry table for wrapped treats, seasonal décor, keys, or small guest goodies. It has that “where did you buy that?” look without the price tag, which is always my favorite category of DIY.

1. Wash the charger plates and candlesticks with warm soapy water, then dry them completely so the glue can bond well.
2. Wipe the spots that will be glued with rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner, focusing on the center back of each charger plate and the top and bottom rims of each candlestick.
3. Set one charger plate face down on your protected work surface and use the ruler to find the center as closely as you can.
4. Apply a generous ring of heavy-duty adhesive to the top rim of the shorter candlestick, then press it onto the center of the first charger plate to form the upper tier.
5. Hold the candlestick in place for 30 to 60 seconds, then add a few small strips of painter’s tape around the base if needed to keep it from shifting while the glue sets.
6. Apply adhesive to the bottom rim of that same shorter candlestick and center it on top of the second charger plate, creating the connection between the top and bottom tiers.
7. Turn the stacked piece upright carefully and check that both plates look level; adjust immediately if needed before the glue begins to firm up.
8. Apply adhesive to the bottom of the taller candlestick and press it onto the center of the underside of the lower charger plate to create the pedestal base.
9. Step back and view the stand from all sides, making small centering adjustments so the tiers look straight and balanced.
10. Let the stand cure undisturbed according to the adhesive directions, ideally for 24 hours, before adding any décor or carrying it to your front door table.
Variations & Tips
Use matching finishes: If your charger plates have a metallic rim, try to find candlesticks with a similar elegance or spray-paint the glass once before assembly if the product you choose is compatible with glass.
Choose your height thoughtfully: I like using one shorter and one taller candlestick because it gives the stand a graceful profile, almost like a pastry display in miniature.
Keep the weight light: Since the plates are plastic, this stand is best for lightweight décor, faux treats, wrapped candies, keys, ornaments, or silk florals rather than heavy ceramic items.
Make it seasonal: For the front door, fill it with mini pumpkins in fall, ornaments in winter, seed packets in spring, or wrapped lemon candies in summer for a cheerful little nod to the season.
Check adhesive cure time: In the kitchen I’ve learned that patience changes the outcome of almost everything, and glue is no different. Even if the stand feels stable early, a full cure gives you a much stronger hold.
