There’s something so satisfying about turning two simple dollar store finds into a piece that looks charming and intentional, especially for fall. In this project, I’m using glass flower frogs and wooden napkin rings to make a sweet little candle pedestal that feels just right by a front door, on an entry table, or tucked into a porch display with mini pumpkins and leaves.
I love projects like this because they’re budget-friendly, quick to finish, and easy to personalize. Materials
2 clear glass flower frogs, 3 to 4 inches wide each
Instructions
1. Lightly sand the wooden napkin rings to smooth any rough edges, then wipe away the dust with a dry cloth.
2. If you want a painted finish, brush a thin coat of acrylic paint onto the napkin rings and let them dry completely before adding a second coat if needed.
3. Clean the top and bottom contact points of the glass flower frogs with rubbing alcohol so the glue will bond well, and let them air dry for a minute.
4. Apply a thin, even bead of clear craft glue around the top edge of one wooden napkin ring, then center one glass flower frog on top and press gently.
5. Repeat with the second napkin ring and second flower frog if you’re making a matching pair, or glue the second flower frog onto the first frog if you want a taller single pedestal.
6. Check the pedestal from all sides to make sure it sits level, then leave it undisturbed for the full drying time listed on your glue.
7. If desired, seal the painted wood with a thin coat of matte sealer or clear wax once the glue has cured, keeping the finish off the glass.
8. Set the flameless pillar candle on top of the finished pedestal and style the base with a few faux leaves, acorns, or mini pumpkins for a cozy fall look by the front door.
Variations & Tips
Make a matching pair: I think these look especially lovely flanking a front door basket or sitting on each side of an entry bench. Just repeat the same build twice for an easy symmetrical display.
Use flameless candles: Because this project combines wood and glue, I strongly recommend flameless candles instead of real ones. They still give that warm glow I love when company is coming over.
Try darker paint colors: Matte black, deep brown, olive, and warm cream all work beautifully for fall. If your home leans farmhouse or rustic, those shades make the glass stand out in a really pretty way.
Add texture for a weathered look: Once the paint is dry, lightly sand the edges of the napkin ring to let a little wood peek through. It gives the pedestal an older, cozy look that fits right in with autumn decorating.
For picky decorators: In my house, not everyone loves lots of seasonal fuss, so I keep the base simple with just a candle and a couple of tiny pumpkins. If your family prefers cleaner decor, this project still looks sweet without extra embellishment.
Check the fit before gluing: Some dollar store flower frogs and napkin rings vary a bit in size, so I always dry-fit the pieces first. Centering everything before the glue sets makes the final piece look much more polished.
