By clipping a small binder clip onto the inside rim of a ceramic planter saucer, you create a simple resting spot that lets a damp sponge sit up off the dish so water can drip away instead of pooling underneath.
I’m always drawn to practical fixes that use humble household items in a smarter way, and this one is especially good for small kitchens, apartment sinks, or anyone who wants a tidier counter without buying another plastic organizer. The white ceramic saucer keeps the look clean and classic, while the bronze binder clip adds just enough grip to hold the sponge in place.
Materials
1 white ceramic planter saucer, 5 to 6 inches wide
Instructions
1. Wash the ceramic planter saucer with dish soap and warm water, then dry it fully with the towel so the surface is clean and not slippery.
2. Set the saucer on a flat counter with the shallow well facing up, and choose the side where you want the sponge to rest most naturally near your sink.
3. Open the small bronze binder clip and attach it to the inside rim of the saucer, positioning it so the clip grips the ceramic securely without wobbling.
4. Rotate or slide the clip slightly if needed so the metal arms do not tip the saucer and the clip sits comfortably along the inner edge.
5. Rest the sponge against the inside of the saucer and tuck one long edge lightly behind the binder clip so the sponge stands at an angle instead of lying flat in pooled water.
6. Place the finished holder beside the sink and test it with a damp sponge, making sure drips collect in the saucer while the sponge stays lifted for better airflow.
Variations & Tips
Use a different saucer size: If you use a slightly larger saucer, you’ll have more room to catch drips from a thicker sponge or small scrub brush.
Match your kitchen metals: Binder clips come in different finishes, so you can choose black, silver, or bronze to better coordinate with your faucet and hardware.
Check the rim thickness: Ceramic saucers vary a bit, so test the binder clip before committing to the setup; it should grip snugly without forcing it.
