This little bathroom project is one of those wonderfully simple ideas that looks tidy, takes just a few minutes, and makes the counter feel more put together right away. By filling a short amber glass jar with dried white rice, you create a stable base that helps toothbrushes stand upright instead of rolling around in a drawer or leaning against the sink.

I’m always drawn to easy home fixes that make everyday routines smoother, especially in busy family spaces. This toothbrush holder is perfect for anyone who wants an inexpensive, natural-looking organizer for the bathroom, and it’s especially handy if you like a warm, clean style without buying one more plastic accessory.

Materials

1 short amber glass jar, about 4 to 5 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches tall

2 to 3 cups dried white rice
3 bamboo toothbrushes
1 small funnel
1 measuring cup, 1-cup size
1 clean dry cloth

Instructions

1. Wash the short amber glass jar if needed, then dry it completely inside and out with a clean cloth so the rice stays fresh and loose.

2. Set the jar on a flat bathroom counter and place a small funnel in the opening to keep the rice from spilling.

3. Pour in 2 cups of dried white rice, then gently shake the jar to level the surface and settle the grains.

4. Add more rice, a little at a time, until the jar is about three-quarters full; this gives the toothbrushes support without making the jar too crowded.

5. Press the handle end of each bamboo toothbrush gently down into the rice, spacing them evenly so they stand upright without touching too much.

6. Adjust the depth of the toothbrush handles and smooth the top of the rice so the brushes stand straight and look neat from the front.

7. Place the finished holder in a dry spot near the sink where it’s easy to reach but less likely to get splashed often.

Variations & Tips

For a fuller look: Use 4 toothbrushes instead of 3 if your jar is slightly wider, but keep enough space so each one can be removed easily.

For picky family members: Give each person a different toothbrush color or bristle shade so kids and guests can quickly spot their own brush without confusion.

To keep it fresh: Replace the rice every few weeks, or sooner if it gets damp from bathroom humidity or sink splashes.

For extra stability: Choose a heavier short glass jar rather than a lightweight one, especially if little hands will be grabbing toothbrushes in a hurry before school.

For a cleaner counter: Wipe the base of the jar every few days and move it away from standing water so the setup stays neat and practical.

Easy substitute: If you don’t have white rice, you can try another completely dry small grain, but plain white rice is my favorite because it looks crisp, clean, and bright through the amber glass.
