In a small laundry room, the tiniest improvement can make the whole space feel calmer. This simple pod dispenser is one of those projects I wish I’d started using years ago: a clear acrylic container set right on top of a small white lazy Susan inside the cabinet, so the pods stay tidy, visible, and easy to reach with one turn.
I’m fond of projects like this because they don’t ask much of you, but they give back every single day. If your laundry supplies are always getting pushed to the back of the cabinet or you’re tired of crinkly bags slumping over on the shelf, this is a neat little fix that looks polished and works beautifully in even the smallest laundry nook.
Materials
1 clear acrylic storage container, about 10 inches long x 6 inches wide x 7 inches tall
Instructions
1. Empty the cabinet shelf and wipe it clean so the lazy Susan will sit flat and spin smoothly. Let the shelf dry fully before you place anything back inside.
2. Wash or wipe the acrylic container and the top of the lazy Susan to remove dust and factory residue. I use a little rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth for this so the surfaces feel squeaky clean.
3. Measure the base of the acrylic container and cut a piece of clear non-slip shelf liner to fit inside the lazy Susan’s top surface or just under the container base. This keeps the bin from sliding when you give the turntable a quick spin.
4. Set the cut liner on the lazy Susan, then center the clear acrylic container on top. Spin the turntable once to make sure the bin stays balanced and doesn’t wobble.
5. If you want extra grip, place 4 to 8 clear adhesive bumper dots on the lazy Susan top in a ring just inside the container footprint. Keep them evenly spaced so the container stays level.
6. Place the lazy Susan inside the cabinet and check the door clearance before filling the container. Make sure there is enough room above and in front for your hand to reach in comfortably.
7. Fill the acrylic container with 40 to 60 laundry pods, stopping at about three-quarters full so you can grab them easily without crushing the top layer. That little bit of open space also keeps the setup looking neat instead of overstuffed.
8. Turn the lazy Susan a few times and test it from the position you normally stand in while doing laundry. Adjust the bin slightly forward or backward until it feels natural to reach, then keep your detergent pods there for everyday use.
Variations & Tips
For very shallow cabinets: Choose a lazy Susan closer to 8 inches wide and a narrower acrylic bin so the turn still feels smooth without bumping the hinges or door frame.
For extra stability: A square of museum gel or removable mounting putty between the liner and the bin can help if your shelf has a slick finish, though I’d start with the non-slip liner first because it’s usually enough.
For a more polished look: Match all visible storage in the cabinet by using white bins, clear jars, or folded towels in similar tones nearby. That little bit of consistency makes even a hard-working laundry cabinet feel intentional.
To keep pods in good condition: Store the dispenser away from moisture and always use dry hands when reaching in. In my house, keeping things dry is half the battle with any laundry supply.
For other laundry supplies: This same setup works nicely for dryer balls, stain-remover packs, clothespins, or wrapped dishwasher tablets if you have a utility cabinet elsewhere in the house.
Easy cleaning tip: Every few weeks, lift off the bin, wipe the lazy Susan, and return it to the same centered spot. It takes less than a minute and keeps the whole cabinet from getting that dusty, forgotten-shelf feeling.
