1. Wash the glass beverage jar, lid, and spout thoroughly with warm water, then let every part dry completely so the detergent stays clean and the label sticks properly.
2. Wipe the outside of the jar where the label will go with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth to remove any dust, soap film, or fingerprints.
3. Place the empty jar in its laundry room spot and make sure there is enough clearance under the spout for a measuring cup; this is the easiest time to adjust the shelf or tray before it is full and heavy.
4. Set the jar on a stable counter, place the funnel in the opening, and slowly pour in the liquid laundry detergent, pausing every few cups so the soap can settle without overflowing.
5. Stop filling when the detergent reaches about 2 inches below the top of the jar so there is room to stir gently if needed and the lid can go on cleanly without drips.
6. If your detergent is very thick, stir it slowly with the handle of a clean measuring cup to release trapped air bubbles, then wipe the rim and secure the lid.
7. Apply the waterproof label to the front of the jar at eye level so everyone in the family can quickly tell what is inside, and press the edges down firmly.
8. Move the filled jar into place in the laundry room, set the measuring cup beneath or beside the spout, and test the flow with a small pour to make sure the detergent dispenses smoothly and cleanly.
9. Wipe away any drips from the spout and jar base, then keep the original detergent bottle capped nearby for easy refills when the jar gets low.

For very small shelves: Choose a shorter, wide beverage jar instead of a tall one so you still get a generous amount of detergent stored without losing access to the spout.
For picky family members who like clear systems: Keep one measuring cup dedicated just for laundry soap and store it right under the spout so nobody guesses at the amount.
