A little bathroom order goes a long way, especially around the sink where lotions, hand soap, and daily bottles seem to multiply overnight. This project turns a small wire desk file organizer into a tidy bathroom lotion caddy simply by lining it with linen and sliding your bottles into place, and I love that it looks polished without asking for much time or fuss.

It’s the kind of practical trick I’m always drawn to: easy enough for an afternoon, useful right away, and pretty enough to leave out in plain sight. If you want your counter to feel calmer and more put together without spending money on a specialty organizer, this is a fine little solution.

Materials

1 small rose gold wire desk file organizer, approximately 9 inches long x 4 inches wide x 6 inches tall

1 piece cream linen fabric, 1/2 yard
1 piece lightweight fusible interfacing, 1/4 yard
4 pump bottles for lotion, soap, or skincare, 7 to 9 inches tall total
1 hot glue gun
3 hot glue sticks, standard size
1 fabric scissors
1 measuring tape or ruler
8 straight pins or 6 sewing clips
1 iron, for fusing interfacing
1 pressing cloth or clean cotton towel

Instructions

1. Measure the inside bottom, back, front, and both side sections of the wire file organizer so your liner fits closely without bunching.

2. Cut one long rectangle of cream linen to wrap the inside bottom and both tall sides, adding 1 inch on every edge for folding and gluing.

3. Cut matching interfacing for the linen panel, fuse it to the wrong side with an iron and pressing cloth, and let it cool flat so the liner holds its shape.

4. Fold the raw edges of the linen to the back by 1/2 inch, then glue them down so the liner has clean finished edges all the way around.

5. Test-fit the linen inside the organizer, trimming only if needed, until it sits snugly against the wire frame and covers the open grid neatly.

6. Run a thin line of hot glue along the inside bottom wires and press the linen panel into place, smoothing from the center outward.

7. Add small dots of glue where the linen meets the side wires and back wires, pressing gently so the fabric stays taut and doesn’t sag between the metal bars.

8. If you want a more tailored finish, glue a second narrow strip of linen around the upper inside rim where the fabric edge meets the wire, creating a soft banded border.

9. Let the glue cool completely for 10 minutes, then check every side and add a tiny bit more glue anywhere the linen lifts away from the frame.

10. Wipe the pump bottles clean, then slide the tallest bottles into the deepest section and shorter bottles in front so the arrangement looks full, balanced, and easy to reach.

11. Turn the caddy so the slanted file-organizer shape cradles the bottles securely, with the linen softening the look while the rose gold wire still shows through.

Variations & Tips

For a no-sew finish: Hot glue works just fine here, and folding the fabric edges before gluing is what keeps it looking neat rather than homemade in a hurry.

For damp bathrooms: Choose a linen-blend or outdoor fabric if your counter stays humid, since a slightly sturdier fabric will resist wrinkling and hold its shape longer.

For extra stability: Set a small piece of clear shelf liner or cork under the organizer so it won’t slide when you pump lotion with one hand.

For a fuller look: Use three to five bottles in similar tones or matching dispensers; grouped together, they make the caddy feel intentional and much more elegant.

For easy cleaning: Keep the glue line light and mainly along the wire edges, so you can spot-clean the linen with a damp cloth without soaking the whole insert.

For a prettier finish: A narrow ribbon glued around the top rim or a tiny linen bow on one side can dress it up nicely, especially in a guest bath.
