I love a bathroom project that feels a little bit boutique-hotel, but costs almost nothing and takes less time than making dinner. This cotton round dispenser is exactly that: a simple small glass cloche set over a wooden candle lid, filled generously with cotton rounds so it looks tidy, intentional, and surprisingly polished on a bathroom counter.
If you enjoy easy upgrades that make everyday essentials look prettier, this is a wonderful one to try. It’s especially good for small bathrooms, guest baths, and vanity areas, because the glass keeps the cotton rounds visible and easy to grab while the wooden base adds warmth that softens all the usual hard bathroom surfaces.
Materials
Instructions
1. Wash the glass cloche with warm soapy water, rinse it well, and dry it completely so it looks crystal clear once filled.
2. Wipe the wooden candle lid clean, then lightly sand the top and edges with 220-grit sandpaper to smooth any wax residue, rough spots, or factory finish.
3. Dampen the cloth with rubbing alcohol and wipe the lid thoroughly to remove dust and any lingering oils, then let it air-dry for 2 to 3 minutes.
4. Brush on a thin, even coat of clear matte or satin sealer over the top and sides of the wooden lid to protect it from bathroom humidity, then let it dry according to the product directions.
5. Once the lid is fully dry, stack the cotton rounds into short, tidy bundles of 10 to 15 rounds each so they are easier to arrange neatly inside the cloche.
6. Place the cotton round bundles directly onto the wooden lid, standing them mostly upright and slightly overlapping them in a tight circular pattern to create a full, generous look.
7. Add more cotton rounds to fill the center and build the stack high enough that it looks abundant without pressing hard against the glass.
8. Lower the glass cloche carefully over the cotton rounds and center it on the wooden lid so the arrangement looks balanced from every angle.
9. Set the finished dispenser on a bathroom counter, vanity tray, or open shelf, and keep a little breathing room around it so the glass shape and tidy cotton stack can be appreciated.
Variations & Tips
Try a darker wood finish: If your bathroom has black fixtures or richer wood tones, use a walnut-toned candle lid or stain the lid before sealing it for a moodier, more tailored look.
Use oval cotton pads too: If you prefer larger cotton pads, arrange them the same way, but reduce the quantity so the cloche still closes easily without crushing the stack.
Add subtle grip: If the wooden lid slides on a slick countertop, stick 3 or 4 tiny clear rubber bumpers underneath to keep the dispenser stable.
Keep it looking fresh: I like to refill before the stack gets too low, because this project looks best when the cloche feels full and intentional rather than half-empty.
Pair it with matching storage: This looks especially pretty next to a second glass container for cotton swabs or bath salts, which gives the whole bathroom that coordinated, thoughtfully finished feeling.
