I have always believed that a laundry room works better when the everyday necessities are both handy and pleasant to look at. This little project is exactly that kind of fix: a large clear glass cookie jar turned into a tidy detergent pod dispenser, set on a folded oatmeal linen tea towel to soften the look and protect the shelf. It takes only a few minutes, but it makes the whole space feel calmer and more put together.

If you keep detergent pods in a bulky bag or a bright plastic tub, this is a wonderfully simple way to neaten things up without making laundry any harder. It is especially nice for folks who want a cleaner, more homey look in the laundry room with almost no fuss at all. I love projects like this because they remind me that sometimes the best improvements are the plain, practical ones that make a chore feel just a little more graceful.

Materials

1 large clear glass cookie jar with lid, 1 jar about 1 1/2 to 2 gallon capacity
45 to 70 detergent pods, enough to fill the jar about three-quarters full
1 oatmeal linen tea towel, about 18 x 28 inches
1 microfiber cloth, 1 piece
2 to 3 teaspoons gentle glass cleaner or a light mist of white vinegar and water

Instructions

1. Wash and dry the glass cookie jar and lid thoroughly so no dust, moisture, or packaging residue is left inside.

2. Lightly spray the outside of the jar with glass cleaner and polish it with the microfiber cloth until it is clear and streak-free.

3. Fold the oatmeal linen tea towel into a neat rectangle about 9 x 12 inches, or to fit the shelf or countertop where you plan to keep the jar.

4. Set the folded tea towel in place, then center the empty glass jar on top so it sits flat and steady.

5. Add the detergent pods to the jar one handful at a time, letting them settle naturally so the colors show through the glass and the jar fills evenly.

6. Stop when the jar is about three-quarters full to leave enough room for easy grabbing without pods tumbling out.

7. Place the lid on the jar securely and turn it slightly so it sits straight and looks finished.

8. Tuck the edges of the tea towel if needed, and position the dispenser near the washer where it is easy to reach but away from splashes and dampness.

Variations & Tips

Use the right jar size: A jar in the 1 1/2 to 2 gallon range holds a generous amount of pods and still leaves room to reach in comfortably.

Keep it dry: Make sure the jar is completely dry before filling it, since moisture can make pods stick together or soften.

Match your laundry room: If you like a softer farmhouse look, use a striped or textured linen tea towel instead of a plain one, as long as it still folds flat under the jar.

Don’t overfill: Leaving a little headspace makes the dispenser easier to use and keeps it looking neat instead of crowded.

Refresh it often: Every few weeks, wipe the jar and refold the towel so the whole setup keeps that fresh, orderly look.

Safety first: Store detergent pods well out of reach of children and pets, even when they are displayed neatly in a beautiful jar.
