A simple headphone hook on the side of a nightstand is one of those tiny bedroom fixes that makes life feel much tidier. If you are tired of headphones sliding behind the bed, tangling with charging cords, or getting set on top of books and water glasses, this is an easy little upgrade that takes just a few minutes and genuinely earns its spot.

I like projects like this because they solve a real problem without asking you to drag out a toolbox or put holes in good furniture. This version uses a large antique brass cup hook and clear adhesive strips, so you get the warmth of metal hardware against wood with a renter-friendly install that still looks polished and intentional.

Materials

1 large antique brass cup hook, 2 1/2 to 3 inches long with a wide curved hook
2 clear heavy-duty adhesive mounting strips, rated for at least 1 pound total hold
1 isopropyl alcohol wipe or 1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol with 1 small microfiber cloth
1 wooden nightstand with a flat side panel, preferably at least 10 inches tall of clear mounting area
1 pair of over-ear or on-ear headphones to size the placement
1 pencil for marking placement
1 measuring tape or ruler

Instructions

1. Set your headphones against the side of the nightstand and choose a spot where the hook will keep them off the floor without bumping the drawer, shelf, or bed frame. I usually aim for the upper half of the side panel so the headphones hang neatly and stay easy to grab.

2. Measure down about 3 to 5 inches from the top of the nightstand and mark a small pencil dot centered front to back on the side panel. This height usually lets the headband rest comfortably while keeping the ear cups from dragging.

3. Wipe the marked area thoroughly with the alcohol wipe and let it dry completely for at least 1 minute. Clean contact matters here, especially on a nightstand that may have furniture polish or dust on the finish.

4. Clean the flat mounting side of the cup hook as well, especially if it has any oil or residue from packaging. Dry it fully so the adhesive can bond as strongly as possible.

5. Press the clear adhesive strips onto the mounting side of the hook, trimming only if absolutely needed so they do not show from the front. Use two strips stacked vertically for a more secure hold and firmer contact against the wood.

6. Peel the backing and press the hook firmly onto the pencil mark with the hook opening facing upward. Hold steady pressure for 30 to 60 seconds so the adhesive seats evenly against the nightstand.

7. Leave the hook unloaded for the full cure time listed on the adhesive package, usually about 1 hour for light use and up to 24 hours for best strength. I know it is tempting to hang the headphones right away, but waiting gives a much cleaner, longer-lasting result.

8. Hang the headphones by the headband and adjust their position so the ear cups fall evenly. If you want the setup to look extra finished, wipe away the pencil mark and give the brass hook a quick buff with a dry cloth.

Variations & Tips

For larger headphones: Choose a cup hook with a deeper curve and wider opening so thick padded headbands sit securely without slipping.

For a more hidden look: Mount the hook slightly toward the back edge of the nightstand so the headphones stay accessible but less visible from the front of the room.

For delicate furniture finishes: Test the adhesive on an inconspicuous area first, especially on vintage or hand-finished wood, since some finishes are more sensitive than others.

For better holding power: Use adhesive strips rated above the actual weight of your headphones, and avoid hanging extra items like charging cables or small bags from the same hook.

For a polished finish: Match the metal tone of the hook to your lamp, drawer pull, or bed hardware. That little repeat of brass makes the project look planned instead of improvised.

Good placement rule: Open the nightstand drawer fully before mounting and make sure the hanging headphones will not catch your hand each time you reach in. A two-minute check saves a lot of daily annoyance.
