I love a bathroom upgrade that looks custom but takes less than an hour, and this little toiletry riser absolutely fits that category. By stacking small terra cotta saucers under clear glass apothecary jars, you get that layered, boutique-hotel look on a vanity counter without buying expensive organizers. The saucers give each jar a visual base, a little lift, and just enough warm color to make everyday cotton balls, bath salts, and hair ties look intentional instead of cluttered.
This is a great project if you want your bathroom to feel more finished but you do not want to commit to a full remodel or a complicated build. I am always looking for those in-between projects that make a space feel pulled together on a busy weeknight, and this one is especially satisfying because it is simple, useful, and honestly the kind of thing guests immediately notice.
Materials
3 tall clear glass apothecary jars with lids, 1 1/2- to 2-quart size, about 10 to 12 inches tall each
Instructions
1. Wash the terra cotta saucers and glass jars with warm soapy water, then dry them completely so the adhesive sticks well and the finished risers do not trap dust or residue.
2. Lightly sand the bottom of one saucer in each pair and the top rim area of the matching saucer so the stacked pieces grip each other better, then wipe away dust with a dry cloth.
3. Wipe the contact areas of the saucers and the bottoms of the jars with rubbing alcohol and let everything air-dry for a minute.
4. Apply a thin bead of clear adhesive around the center of one saucer, then set a second saucer on top upside down so the two saucers create a stable pedestal with a wider base and a flat upper surface.
5. Repeat with the remaining saucers to make three matching risers, then check them from all sides and nudge them into alignment before the adhesive starts to set.
6. If you want extra protection from bathroom humidity, brush or spray the outside of the stacked saucers with a light coat of matte clear sealer and let them dry fully.
7. Press four felt pads onto the underside of each bottom saucer, spacing them evenly near the edge so the risers will not scratch your vanity or wobble.
8. Place one glass apothecary jar on each riser and center it carefully; if you want a permanent setup, add a small ring of clear adhesive to the jar bottom first, but I usually leave mine unattached so I can wash and rearrange everything easily.
9. Fill the jars generously with bathroom essentials like cotton rounds, cotton swabs, bath salts, guest soaps, or hair accessories so the display looks full and polished instead of half-finished.
10. Arrange the three jars together on the vanity with a little breathing room between them, then wipe the glass one last time for a clean, finished shine.
Variations & Tips
For a taller look: Use slightly deeper saucers or wider saucers in the same shape to create a chunkier base that reads even more like a custom bathroom accessory.
For a softer finish: Seal the terra cotta and then dry-brush the edges with a little white or cream craft paint for a more cottage-style look while still keeping the saucer shape visible.
For renter-friendly styling: Skip gluing the jars to the saucers so you can empty, wash, and swap the containers whenever your storage needs change.
For better balance: Keep the heaviest filler, like bath salts or wrapped soaps, in the widest jar and use lighter items like cotton balls in the taller jars so the arrangement feels sturdy.
For easy cleaning: Add felt pads before the jars go on top and lift the whole riser when wiping the counter instead of sliding it, especially if you have a stone vanity.
Best display tip: Group the jars in odd-number styling with one slightly taller jar in the center. I do this all the time in my kitchen and bathroom because it makes even everyday storage look much more intentional.
