This cozy little living room tray is one of those easy projects that looks much more special than the effort it takes. I’m taking a plain wooden lazy Susan and wrapping the outer edge in soft faux fur trim, then styling it as a rotating mug warmer station for cozy season with white ceramic mugs, a candle warmer base, and all the little touches that make a coffee table feel inviting.
I love projects like this because they make everyday routines feel a bit sweeter, especially when the weather turns chilly and everybody starts gathering in the living room with cocoa, tea, or coffee. If you want something soft, seasonal, and genuinely useful without hauling out a whole workshop, this is a simple afternoon DIY that gives you a polished result.
Materials
Instructions
1. Wipe the wooden lazy Susan clean and make sure the rim is dry and dust-free so the trim will stick well.
2. Measure around the outer edge of the lazy Susan and cut the faux fur trim to fit, adding 1 extra inch for a clean overlap at the seam.
3. Use the cardstock as a shield and apply a thin line of hot glue in 4- to 5-inch sections around the side rim, pressing the faux fur trim in place as you go.
4. Keep the top surface and bottom edge free of glue so the tray still spins smoothly and sits flat on the table.
5. Overlap the trim ends by 1 inch at the back, tuck the raw edge under, and secure it with both hot glue and a small dab of craft glue for a neat finish.
6. Let the glue set for 10 to 15 minutes, then roll a lint roller lightly over the trim to remove loose fibers and make it look full and tidy.
7. Turn the lazy Susan over and place adhesive felt pads evenly around the underside if it needs a little extra lift for smoother spinning on a coffee table.
8. Set the mug warmer plate in the center of the wooden top and check that it sits stable without hanging over the edge.
9. Arrange the three white ceramic mugs around the warmer so they are balanced and easy to rotate toward whoever is reaching for a drink.
10. Tie the cream ribbon into a soft bow and attach it near the seam in the trim if you want an extra finished touch for winter decorating.
11. Give the tray one final spin, trim any stray threads, and style it with your mugs so it’s ready for cocoa, tea, or after-dinner coffee in the living room.
Variations & Tips
For a richer look: Use a stained or painted lazy Susan before adding the trim. A warm walnut stain looks especially pretty with cream fur and white mugs.
For picky drinkers: I like to set out a mix of mugs for cocoa, decaf tea, and coffee so everyone in the family feels included. You can even keep a little bowl of marshmallows or wrapped stir sticks beside the tray if you have room.
If you skip the warmer: This still works beautifully as a simple rotating mug and treat tray. Add a small candle in the center instead of the warming plate for a cozy coffee-table display.
Best glue tip: Work in short sections so the faux fur stays lined up and plush instead of getting stretched or matted. Press on the fabric backing of the trim, not the fur itself.
Keep it easy to clean: Leave the top wood surface uncovered so you can wipe up drips quickly. That also helps the project keep the recognizable lazy Susan look instead of covering the wood completely.
Seasonal swap: In December, I’d add a velvet ribbon bow and a little sprig of faux pine. After winter, you can switch to a soft beige trim and a simple linen bow for an everyday cozy look.
