I love a bathroom project that fixes a real everyday problem without taking over the whole room, and this one does exactly that. By turning a black wire fruit basket into a wall-mounted hand towel holder, you get a neat little station that keeps rolled washcloths or hand towels easy to grab, easy to restock, and honestly much prettier than a messy stack on the counter.

This is especially nice for family bathrooms, guest baths, and powder rooms where storage is always a little tight. I’m a big fan of anything that helps a space feel more pulled together in under an hour, and this project gives you that polished, practical look with very little effort.

Materials

1 matte black wire fruit basket, approximately 11 to 13 inches wide and 5 to 7 inches deep
10 cream washcloths, about 12 x 12 inches each
4 large heavy-duty adhesive mounting strips, rated for bathroom use
2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol
1 clean microfiber cloth
1 measuring tape
1 small level
1 pencil

Instructions

1. Wash and fully dry the washcloths first if they are new, then fold or smooth each one so it rolls neatly and holds its shape.

2. Wipe the back contact points of the wire fruit basket with rubbing alcohol, then clean the wall area where you plan to mount it; let both dry completely so the adhesive grabs well.

3. Choose a spot near the sink that is easy to reach but safely away from frequent splashes, and mark the placement lightly with a pencil using the level to keep the basket straight.

4. Apply the adhesive strips to the back of the basket at four balanced points, pressing them firmly onto the wire where they will make the best contact against the wall.

5. Press the basket onto the wall in your marked position and hold it in place according to the adhesive package directions so it bonds securely.

6. Roll each washcloth into a snug tube, keeping the smooth folded edge facing outward so the finished holder looks full and tidy.

7. Start filling the basket from one side, tucking the rolled cream washcloths horizontally through the wire so they nestle together and stay put without unraveling.

8. Pack in all 10 washcloths, adjusting the rolls so the basket looks generously filled with even spacing and a rounded, cushiony front.

9. Gently tug one towel out to make sure the others stay in place, then tighten or reposition any loose rolls for the neatest finished look.

10. Erase any visible pencil marks, give the wall a quick wipe, and let the holder sit undisturbed for the full adhesive cure time before regular use.

Variations & Tips

For guest bathrooms: Use matching cream or white washcloths and roll them all the same size for that clean, hotel-style look that makes visitors feel extra cared for.

For kids’ bathrooms: Try a mix of two coordinating towel colors so children can easily tell which cloth is theirs while still keeping the holder looking organized.

Basket choice: A wire basket with a slightly open front works best because the towels are easy to tuck in and pull out, but a deeper fruit basket can hold a fuller stash if your bathroom gets heavy use.

Adhesive tip: Always check the weight rating before mounting; once the basket is filled, it will be heavier than it looks, especially if you choose thicker spa-style washcloths.

For a more polished finish: If your basket has shiny spots or mixed metal tones, spray-paint it matte black before mounting and let it cure completely so the final look feels intentional and bathroom-ready.

Picky family tip: In my house, anything that is easier to grab gets used faster, so I like keeping the softest washcloths front and center; if your family is fussy about texture, choose plush cotton cloths instead of thin budget ones.

Easy restocking: Roll an extra set of washcloths and store them under the sink in a small bin so you can refill the basket in a minute when company is coming.
