If your laundry room always seems to collect half-used boxes, crinkly bags, and little pods rolling where they should not, this is one of those fixes that looks good and works even better. I love a project like this because it takes something purely practical and gives it a cleaner, more intentional home without turning it into a fussy organizing system.
This DIY pod dispenser is simply a large clear glass cookie jar filled with laundry pods and set on a small lazy susan, but the finished result feels surprisingly polished. The turntable makes it easy to grab pods from any angle, the glass keeps the colors visible and attractive, and the whole setup is simple enough for anyone to put together in under half an hour.
Materials
1 large clear glass cookie jar with lid, 1-gallon capacity, about 8 to 10 inches tall
Instructions
1. Wash the glass cookie jar and lid with warm soapy water, then dry them completely and wipe the outside with rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner for a clear, streak-free finish.
2. Place the bamboo lazy susan where you want the dispenser to live and test that it spins smoothly without wobbling.
3. Cut the clear non-slip liner into a circle slightly smaller than the base of the jar, then set it on the center of the lazy susan to keep the jar from sliding as the tray turns.
4. Add the felt pads to the underside of the lazy susan if you are placing it on a painted shelf, washer top, or delicate counter so it turns easily without scratching the surface.
5. Set the empty glass jar in the center of the lazy susan and rotate the tray once or twice to make sure the jar stays balanced and centered.
6. Begin filling the jar with laundry pods, placing the first layer around the outer edge and then working inward so the colors stack neatly against the glass.
7. Continue adding pods until the jar is generously full but not crammed, stopping about 1 inch below the rim so the lid can sit flat and the pods keep their shape.
8. Turn the jar as you fill if needed, arranging the most colorful side to face outward; this is a small touch, but it makes the dispenser look finished instead of accidental.
9. Place the lid on the jar and give the lazy susan a slow spin to confirm everything stays stable and easy to access from the front or side.
10. If you want a softer decorative finish, tie the ribbon around the neck of the jar or around the lid handle in a simple knot or bow, keeping it snug and minimal so it does not interfere with opening the jar.
Variations & Tips
Use the right jar size: A 1-gallon cookie jar gives you enough capacity to look abundant without becoming too heavy to lift and refill. If your shelf is shallow, choose a slightly shorter wide-mouth jar instead of a tall one.
Keep it safe: Store the finished jar up high or in a closed laundry room area if you have young children or pets. A lidded glass jar looks beautiful, but safety always comes first with detergent pods.
Try a cleaner look: If ribbon is not your style, skip it entirely and let the bamboo base and colorful pods do the visual work. I often prefer that simpler, pantry-like look in a hard-working space.
Make refilling easier: Pour pods into a large bowl first, then place them into the jar by hand for a tidier stacked look. It reminds me a bit of arranging produce in a fruit bowl so the prettiest side shows.
Match your laundry room: A bamboo lazy susan warms up a white utility space nicely, but an acrylic or painted wood turntable also works if that better suits your shelves and machines.
Prevent sliding: If your lazy susan has a slick finish, do not skip the non-slip liner. That one hidden layer does most of the practical work and keeps the setup feeling sturdy when you spin it.
