There’s something deeply satisfying about taking a few humble pieces and turning them into a bathroom organizer that looks tidy, thoughtful, and a little bit special. This simple vanity organizer uses a rectangular wicker bread basket, a soft linen lining, and clear glass votives to corral all those little bathroom odds and ends that like to wander across the counter—cotton balls, swabs, hair ties, makeup brushes, even lip balm and nail tools.

I’ve always believed the handiest household projects are the ones that make everyday routines smoother without asking much of you. This one is especially good for small bathrooms, guest baths, and anyone who wants a countertop to feel pulled together instead of cluttered. It’s easy enough to put together in an afternoon, but with the right finishing touches, it looks like something you’d spot in a pretty country shop.

Materials

1 rectangular wicker bread basket, approximately 12 inches long x 6 inches wide x 3 inches high
4 small clear glass votives, 2.25 to 2.5 inches in diameter and about 2.5 inches tall
1 piece cream linen fabric, 18 inches x 14 inches
6 feet double-sided fabric tape, 1/2 inch wide
2 tablespoons clear craft glue suitable for wicker and glass accents
1 cream or natural ribbon, 24 inches long and 1 inch wide
8 small cotton pads or felt dots, 1 inch wide, for the basket base
1 small sprig bundle faux eucalyptus or dried lavender, 2 to 3 stems, optional
1 teaspoon fabric-safe wrinkle release spray or a little water for pressing by hand, optional

Instructions

1. Wipe the wicker basket and glass votives clean with a dry cloth so the finished organizer looks crisp and dust-free from the start.

2. Lay the linen flat and center the basket on top, then make sure you have enough fabric to come up all four sides and drape softly over the rim by about 1 to 1 1/2 inches.

3. Trim the linen to about 18 x 14 inches if needed, keeping the shape rectangular so it folds neatly into the basket without bulky corners.

4. Lightly smooth the linen with your hands, and if it is badly creased, mist it very lightly with wrinkle release or water and let it relax flat for a few minutes.

5. Press the linen down into the basket, shaping it into the bottom first and then folding the corners inward so the sides look soft and even rather than bunched.

6. Run short strips of double-sided fabric tape just under the inside rim of the basket, then press the linen in place so it stays put but still keeps that easy, relaxed look.

7. Add a tiny dot of clear craft glue under any stubborn corner folds if needed, using just enough to hold the fabric without soaking through.

8. Attach the cotton pads or felt dots to the underside of the basket base to protect the vanity top and keep the organizer from sliding around.

9. Set the four glass votives into the lined basket in two even rows of two, leaving a little breathing room between them so each one is easy to lift out for cleaning.

10. If you want the votives to stay firmly in place, add a pea-sized dot of clear craft glue beneath each one before setting it back down, keeping the glue centered and minimal.

11. Tie the ribbon around one short end or around a handle area of the basket, then trim the tails so the bow looks neat and simple instead of fussy.

12. Tuck in the optional eucalyptus or lavender stems beside the bow for a soft finishing touch that makes the organizer feel polished and gift-worthy.

13. Fill the glass votives with bathroom essentials such as cotton swabs, cotton balls, floss picks, makeup sponges, hair pins, or slim cosmetics, grouping like items together for the tidiest look.

Variations & Tips

For a guest bathroom: Fill the votives with travel-size toiletries, wrapped soap, cotton rounds, and flossers so overnight company has everything in one easy spot.

For everyday makeup storage: Use one votive for brushes, one for lip products, one for cotton swabs, and one for hair pins or clips; it keeps the morning rush much calmer.

If your basket is larger: Use 5 or 6 votives instead of 4, but keep the arrangement full and balanced so the organizer looks intentional rather than half-filled.

Linen substitute: A cotton tea towel or flour-sack cloth works nicely if you don’t have linen, and both give that same soft, old-fashioned look I’ve always loved in useful household things.

Easy cleaning tip: Leave the votives unglued if you like to change the contents often; you can lift them out, shake the basket clean, and smooth the liner back into place in just a minute.

Make it feel finished: Matching the ribbon to your towels or bath accessories makes this very simple project look thoughtfully decorated without adding any fuss.
