When I’m trying to make a small laundry room work harder, I always start with the little things that tend to scatter everywhere. This clothespin dispenser is one of those simple fixes that looks tidy, keeps a useful supply right where you need it, and makes a cramped space feel more put together without any complicated building.

What I love most about this project is that it’s fast, affordable, and genuinely helpful. A large glass cookie jar holds a generous amount of wooden clothespins, and setting it on a small turntable makes it easy to spin and grab what you need from any angle. If you’ve got a narrow shelf, the top of the washer, or a corner cabinet that needs better organization, this is the kind of practical DIY that earns its keep every single day.

Materials

1 large clear glass cookie jar with lid, 1 gallon capacity
80 natural wooden spring clothespins, standard 3 1/4-inch size
1 small white plastic turntable, 9 to 10 inches wide
4 clear self-adhesive silicone bumper dots, 1/2 inch wide
1 microfiber cloth, 12 x 12 inches
1 small bottle glass cleaner, 8 to 16 ounces

Instructions

1. Wash and dry the glass cookie jar, the lid, and the turntable so everything starts clean and dust-free. Wipe away fingerprints for that crisp, polished look that makes a simple organizer feel intentional.

2. Stick 4 clear silicone bumper dots evenly on the underside of the glass jar base if you want a little extra grip and quieter spinning. This small step helps the jar sit more securely on the plastic turntable.

3. Set the white turntable in its permanent spot in the laundry room before filling the jar. I like to test that there’s enough clearance for the jar to rotate easily without bumping a wall, cabinet, or detergent bottle.

4. Place the empty glass cookie jar in the center of the turntable and make sure it sits level. Adjust it now so the finished dispenser spins smoothly instead of wobbling once it’s full.

5. Fill the jar with the wooden clothespins, dropping them in loosely until the jar looks abundant but not jammed tight. A full jar gives you that satisfying generous look and leaves enough room at the top to reach in easily.

6. Put the lid on the jar, or leave it resting slightly askew if you use clothespins constantly and want faster access. In my house, I usually keep the lid on to keep lint and dust out, then lift it off when I’m hanging delicates or closing chip bags in the pantry later.

7. Spin the turntable once or twice to check that the weight is balanced and easy to reach from all sides. If it drags, simply shift the jar slightly until it turns freely.

8. Style the area with one or two nearby laundry essentials, but keep the top uncluttered so the dispenser stays useful. The whole point is to make a small laundry room feel calmer, not more crowded.

Variations & Tips

For extra capacity: Use a 1 1/2 gallon glass cookie jar and 110 to 120 clothespins if you have a big family or line-dry often. Just make sure your turntable is rated to hold the extra weight safely.

For picky visual tastes: If you like a softer laundry room look, choose bleached wood clothespins or white-painted clothespins for a lighter palette. I always think simple neutral materials help a busy utility space feel calmer.

For smoother spinning: Keep the heaviest items off the turntable except for the jar itself. A centered load makes a big difference, especially on small plastic lazy Susans.

To keep it dust-free: Store the jar with the lid on whenever you’re not actively using the clothespins. This is especially helpful in laundry rooms where lint settles quickly.

To make it more versatile: Tuck a few extra clothespins into a small side dish or basket nearby for the kids to grab during chores, and reserve the main jar for your full supply. I’ve found that when things are easy to reach, everybody is much more willing to help.

Small-space tip: Place the turntable on the corner of the washer, a narrow shelf, or inside a deep cabinet. Being able to rotate the jar toward you saves more room than you’d think.
